I'm probably just going to do the jutte type fiber material next and then the carpet. For now I have a single layer of some typical aluminum coated butyl material on the floors from firewall to trunk, it adds a good bit of weight but it's not a drag car. I'd prefer a thin layer of the butyl rubber type dynamat material then another thin layer of polyurethane closed cell foam to level the floor shape and finally a low density fiber material with good temperature insulating properties that would allow the carpet to air out if a little liquid got through. I've noticed there is actually plenty of room under our cars to mount shields like this, but the work to design them could be prohibitively high. They are really lightweight as well, you will notice these types of shields on many high end vehicles but they can be pricey to make. Some of the road noise gets reflected down and the frequencies that get absorbed are diffused into heat with the remnants being diffracted between the floor and the shield. Another good method is undercar shields that have a gap between the floor of the vehicle, many use simple plastic panels but some also use plastic panels with a felt type material bonded to it. Newer vehicles are doing it right with lighter foam materials in the door that block higher frequencies and also weigh less. Dynamat type products help lower the panel resonance frequencies below road noise level, but it still gets in through doors and other panels that sympathetically vibrate and transfer through.
